The ancient and unchanged land of Sicily is truthfully reflected in the wines of Baglio Gibellina. ‘Baglio’ refers to the original internal courtyard of the farm, surrounded by a series of old rural warehouses once used for the collection and processing of grapes. Dominating the valley, it is surrounded by the hills of Salemi and Santa Ninfa, the landscape marked by rolling vineyards, broom and prickly pears. Old vine, planted between 300-600m above sea level, are grown on a mixture of clay and volcanic soils, resulting in wines that encapsulate ancient family traditions, authenticity and quality, with immense charm and easy appeal.
Viticulture
The vineyards are located on the hills with clay soil. The vines are cultivated with the espallier system and the pruning is Guyot.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand in the end of August and first week of September and are vinified in small stainless steel tanks, at a controlled temperature of 15°C. The maturation occurs in small stainless steel tanks with battonage for the first month of refining. No oak ageing.
Tasting Note
This delightful wine is straw yellow in colour. An intense but pleasant nose with notes of exotic fruit and spice. Fresh and soft on the palate, well balanced, with a persistent aftertaste. Matches well with fish dishes, such as smoked salmon, tuna and swordfish, and spicy white meats.
Our delivery charges are based on the number of bottles in your order, and each case can hold 12 x 75cl bottles as shown in the table below smaller and larger bottles are pro rata. We do not have a minimum order requirement.
Subject to stock availability and successful payment authorisation, we aim to despatch your order the next working day after you place your order. Our Standard Delivery is a next day service for most of the mainland UK from date of despatch, and The Highlands and Islands areas are on a 2-3 day service normally. As most orders are delivered via our chosen courier company, we cannot offer guaranteed delivery times, however the vast majority of orders placed arrive on the next working day. During busy periods these delivery times may extend. IF YOUR ORDER IS TIME CRITICAL PLEASE RING THE OFFICE TO GET MORE UP TO DATE INFORMATION ON CURRENT DELIVERY TIME SCALES, AND WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, BUT PLEASE NOTE WE ARE COURIER DEPENDENT ONCE THE ORDER LEAVES US, SO WE CANNOT ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEE A DELIVERY DATE.
We are able to hold your order if you would like to organise a day when you are going to be in, to do this just indicate it in the notes box provided in the delivery area of the order process. Please add any other specific delivery requirements in the same box and we will do our best to ensure they are followed, or alternatively call us on 01472 852118 and we will do our best to help you. Our chosen Couriers deliver Monday to Friday between 8.00 am & 6.00 pm.
Please note it is not possible to specify a timed delivery, without incurring additional delivery charges, if this something you require please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Please note that all our consignments normally REQUIRE A SIGNATURE on receipt. We will NOT be able to leave your order without someone taking the order in, we cannot leave your order unattended in a porch or garage etc., unless we get written confirmation from you that this is acceptable and that you will take full responsibilty if the parcel goes missing. However we are able to leave it with a neighbour or at an alternative address where they can take the goods in, please indicate this in the box for notes on the delivery page of the order process, if this is a requirement. If no-one answers the door, the address will be carded in the normal manner you should contact the courier or us to get the delivery rescheduled.
Orders under £30 in value will incur a small order £10 carriage charge to standard none surcharged UK delivery areas.
