Bodegas Riojans

Bodegas Riojans

The Artacho family had a deep wine tradition when in 1890 they founded Bodegas Riojanas, together with Rafael Carreras. Throughout its 100-year history, winemaking techniques have evolved because Bodegas Riojanas combine local winemaking tradition with state-of-the-art winemaking techniques. Innovation goes hand in hand with respect for tradition, therefore, they have incorporated the most advanced winemaking techniques that allow for adaptation to current market trends.

The quintessential grape in Rioja is Tempranillo, but Bodegas Riojanas also has one of the largest areas dedicated to Mazuelo and Graciano within the denomination, varieties that provide greater personality to their wines. The different plots of vineyards are situated on clay-limestone of Miocene origin, soils suitable for producing the highest quality.

In early October, after going through the heat of summer, the harvest is done. The choice of the optimum time for harvesting, the productivity of the vines, the selection of grape batches intended to develop different types of wines of the winery; all will have influence in the final quality and characteristics of the wines obtained.

The batches of grapes from old vineyards are collected in boxes, to prevent the pressure produced by the weight breaks, assuring us that grapes arrive in optimal conditions to the winery. Once there, they undergo a meticulous manual selection, bunch by bunch, obtaining wines that are the maximum exponent of Bodegas Riojanas.
