CHATEAU BRANAIRE DUCRU

Recognizing the untapped potential of this sleeping beauty, Patrick Maroteaux and his family acquired Château Branaire-Ducru in 1988 and decided to write a new page in the history of this fourth grand cru classé in 1855. Then began major transformations and work on all the elements that determine the creation of a great wine: the vine, the vat room, the cellars, but also the residence, the first face of a château. Since 2017, François-Xavier Maroteaux has taken over the reins of the estate and the story continues.

In the heart of the Médoc, between Margaux and Pauillac, Château Branaire-Ducru is located in the Saint-Julien appellation, surrounded by other grands crus classés of this exceptional terroir. The vines are planted on gravelly soil, composed of gravel and pebbles carried by the Garonne in the Quaternary. On rounded hills, the "croupes", they dominate the Gironde estuary, the "river" as it is called in the Bordeaux region.

Made up of around 15 micro-terroirs, the vineyard extends over 60 hectares, running along an East-West axis in the southern part of the appellation. The vines, aged 35 years on average, extend over gravelly-siliceous alluvial soils from the Quaternary period, making it one of the warmest terroirs in the region. A typical Médoc grape variety, the 4% Petit Verdot enhances the most delicate blends with its spicy notes.
