Champagne Joseph Perrier is one of the original Grande Marque Houses in Champagne. It was founded by Joseph Perrier (cousin to Laurent Perrier) in 1825 and has been owned and run by just two families since then. Quietly situated in the city of Châlons-en-Champagne, it is the only house that still makes champagne there although there are other cellars adjacent to the over two miles of galleries that Joseph Perrier use to age the champagne today. The family vineyards are centrally located on the south facing slopes overlooking Epernay in the villages of Hautvillers, Cumieres and Damery, with, to the west, organic vineyards in the Marne Valley at Verneuil.
The wines are called Cuvée Royale with the house style that tends towards lightness and elegance, with a fruit emphasis, engaging and refreshingly delicious. Under today’s Cheffe de Cave Nathalie Laplaige, the champagnes have a relatively light dosage, and for the technically minded more and more information about each cuvee is to be found on the back label.
