The house of Moet was established in 1743 by Claude Moet, a courtier en vin and owner of several well-known vineyards in the Vallee de la Marne. His grandson, Jean-Remys friendship with Napoleon helped to make Moet the most famous Champagne of its time. Today it is shipped to 150 countries and is the best selling brand in many of them. Their top cuvee Dom Perignon is named after the famous benedictine monk. He was responsible for much of the early development of the methode champenoise process and today his name is synonymous with the very best Champagne.
