The initial idea of planting a vineyard in the local village came during the owners driving holiday in Germany. A stay in the town of Rhinegarten inspired a conversation on the similarities between there and home, Somerby in Lincolnshire. On arriving home, and after a conversation with the neighbours which resulted in the offer of the use of some land, the challenge began. Initially in 2006 an acre of land was planted with 150 vines -100 red Regent, and 50 white Phoenix. The number of vines has now been increased by 60 times to over 9000 and 7 different grape varieties allow a wide range of wines to be produced.Efforts have been well received with the wines gaining awards last year.
